We make a lot of demands on our immune systems during the winter months. Holiday, work, and family stress coupled with the lower temperatures and precipitation can create a perfect storm of susceptibility to colds and other viruses. But often it’s hard to self-diagnose ailments.

One of the benefits offered by the Alliance is Teladoc: a 24-hour/7 days a week/365 days a year phone consultation service where you can speak to an actual board-certified doctor via phone or online video consult. Here’s a few ways Teladoc can benefit you as an Alliance member:

Get access to real doctors on your schedule

Teladoc doctors are real doctors; they are board-certified and state-licensed, they can diagnose, recommend treatment, and even prescribe medication with a short-term prescription. Their 24/7/365 availability can be especially helpful to people on vacation or traveling for business, as a local all-night medical facility might be difficult to find in some areas. 92% of Teladoc members resolve their medical issue with Teladoc. There is no time limit for consultation; the doctor will work with you for as long as it takes to solve your problem or recommend an appropriate course of action.

The average doctor response time is less than 10 minutes

Here’s how it works: when you require a consult, you log in to your online account or call to request a video or a phone consultation. In approximately 8 minutes, the doctor will consult your Electronic Health Record (EHR) and call or conference you back. How simple is that? Pretty much a no-brainer compared to spending 5 hours in a cold, drafty ER for a non-urgent condition. The EHR is a free service created by Teladoc, and access to it is controlled by you. The doctor will update your EHR after your consultation.

Free consultations for alliance members

In the outside world, Teladoc members pay $40 – 50 for a consultation. But for Alliance members, Teladoc consultations are included in the cost of membership! This service is definitely much cheaper than ER/urgent care visits which may or may not be covered by insurance depending on your plan and location. You’ll never have to worry about being out-of-network when a doctor is an easy phone call and/or video conference away.

Specialists are available

Often an office visit to a specialist will have to be planned months ahead and you’ll have a significant office wait time upon arrival. No fear – Teladoc is here! Dermatologists are available to consult on common skin problems like rash, acne, ringworm, shingles, mouth sores, and fungal infections. Licensed behavioral health specialists are also available. You can speak to a licensed psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist, or social worker for help with addiction, depression, mental/physical challenges, family difficulties, and other assorted emotional problems. The Alliance For Affordable Services is committed to helping you stay healthy through the winter and, in fact, all year round! In addition to complementary Teladoc membership and consultations, members save up to 40% on all CVS brand eligible health-related items (such as cough and cold meds, hand sanitizer, etc) with the CVS ExtraCare card. In the event of an emergency, the Ground Ambulance Service benefit can reimbursed up to $200 in ambulance coverage for actual expenses incurred. There are also discounts available on lab tests, MRI, CT, and/or PET imaging, and prescription assistance.
