Connecting with Government Leaders

Earlier this month, Alliance for Affordable Services partnered with the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce, the California Prosperity Project and BIPAC to hold a legislative forum. The free event was packed with nearly 150 business leaders, residents and students in the Fireside Room at Bakersfield College. These attendees had an opportunity to discuss important issues with Congressman David Valadao, Senator Jean Fuller and Assemblymembers Shannon Grove and Rudy Salas.

Topics discussed at the meeting included immigration reform and water. Valadao expressed that although he supports a Democratic immigration bill that includes a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, he did not expect a House vote this session. Grove and Fuller both discussed the importance of water storage in addressing water needs of the state and also spoke about the water bond and a need to look deeper into the issue. Salas discussed the importance of improving the links between education and employment as a possible solution to the area’s unemployment.
