Spring Break Travel Tips from Assist America

Spring Break is here and people are heading to popular vacation destinations in the U.S. and all over the world. Assist America has published safety tips for some of the more popular destinations:

  • Cancun, Mexico – Stay vigilant and mindful of your environment, prioritize the purchase of bottled water for safety, and exercise caution regarding warning flags at beaches. It’s important to be aware that Cancun experiences a powerful undertow spanning from the Hyatt Regency to Club Med, so pay attention to the conditions of the ocean. Additionally, in Mexico, remember that the emergency telephone number is 066, not 911, and you can access it through public telephones..
  • South Padre Island, Texas – It is safer to stay in the United States for Spring Break but don’t stray too far south if you are visiting South Padre Island. Two major drug trafficking hubs, Matamoros and Nuevo Progresso, are just 30 minutes away but are not worth the risk of finding inexpensive alcohol and a lower drinking age south of the border.
  • Jamaica – It is best to stay inside your resort to get the most pleasure from your stay. Off property you are exposed to locals coming up to you offering drugs and other services. You should also be watchful at the airport. Both Kingston and Montego Bay airports have recently experienced violence.
  • Panama City Beach, Florida – Indulge in the stunning beaches, hotels, and restaurants offered by this renowned destination. However, be aware that taxis and shuttle buses can occasionally be unreliable, so it’s crucial to follow up if you require transportation. Ensure you carry your identification at all times, particularly if you plan to consume alcohol or utilize the shuttle system.

Travel is great fun, but go prepared, and be cautious of unfamiliar surroundings and the people around you so that you get the most from your Spring Break experience. Also, please remember to carry your Assist America card when you travel!
